A wedding weekend of scavenger hunt, butterflies, and rainbow smoke
Three days of adventure, ending in a Castell d'Empordà celebration
A Scavenger Hunt Through Barcelona
Tina and Calvin, based in the US, brought 120 guests from both the US and Asia to Barcelona for a wedding that started two days before the ceremony itself. On the 9th of October, the PearlSandals team sent guests off on a bespoke scavenger hunt through the Gothic Quarter and El Born — winding through the old city before the trail led everyone up to a welcome event on the rooftop of The Barcelona EDITION.
Paella Under the Empordà Sky
The following evening, guests boarded a bus together for the drive from Barcelona out to Castell d'Empordà, the venue that would host the wedding itself. Once there, the night settled into something simpler: a relaxed paella dinner, the whole group together for the first time in one place, ahead of the day to come.
Butterflies and an Arch to Begin
Guests were welcomed with a decorative installation designed by Blast Concept - a floral backdrop woven with butterfly details, a motif that ran through the whole day, down to the butterflies pinned into Tina's hair. In place of a guestbook, guests left a fingerprint and a message under the line "Please leave your fingerprint, help our love grow."
The ceremony took place beneath an olive tree, cellist Nuria Conangla playing as Tina and Calvin married under a butterfly arch, with their friend Jason officiating. Tina wore a fitted lace gown with an off-the-shoulder neckline; Calvin, a cream dinner jacket and black trousers. As they walked back down the aisle, rainbow-coloured smoke rose behind them against the Empordà sky.
An Adventure-Themed Seating Plan
At the aperitivo, guests sipped espresso martinis overlooking the Empordà countryside, as well as the Signature Drinks - “His & Her’s”. The seating plan, also by Blast Concept, carried the day's playfulness further: each guest received a personalised blue luggage tag with an aeroplane design, displayed under the line "Find your table to continue our adventure."
An Evening of Sword, Cake, and Sparklers
As evening set in, the sweetheart table — dressed in blush, dusty blue and ivory by Flors Bertrán — set the scene for the reception. The bridal party entered, then Tina and Calvin, moving into a first dance remixed specially by DJ Benzi with smoke effects. Later, the couple cut their Lolita Bakery cake, finished with edible flowers, against the butterfly backdrop.
The night stayed playful: a Fotomatón BCN photo booth ran throughout, a round of musical chairs broke out, and instead of a bouquet toss, Tina had guests each hold a ribbon tied to her bouquet, cutting them one by one until a single winner remained. Before moving down into the venue's cave for the night's final stretch, guests gathered for one last sparkler moment.
